Rachel Narducci, fossil preparator and collections assistant at the Florida Museum of Natural History, presents the final webinar in our Fall 2016 series. From adhesives to tools to resources, Rachel provides an excellent overview of how to prepare a variety of different fossils post-excavation. This is the last webinar in this series offered through the FOSSIL Project and sponsored by the Paleontological Society. Want to join our online paleontological community? Disclaimer: Studies have shown that Elmer’s Glue composition is inconsistent from batch to batch and is acidic, releasing formic and acetic acid. It should not be used in fossil preparation. pH-neutral white adhesive PVA (Polyvinyl Acetate) emulsions may be used as solution adhesives on fossil specimens instead. For more information, see: J. Down, M.MacDonald, J.Te’treault, S.Williams (1996) "Adhesive Testing at the Canadian Conservation Institute-An Evaluation of Selected Poly (Vinyl acetate) and Acrylic Adhesives," Studies in Conservation 41:19-44.
