Rayne Thatch is a historic Edwardian chalet-style property in Leigh Woods, Bristol, built between 1907 and 1910 by tobacco multi-millionaire Walter Melville Wills. Originally used as a holiday playhouse, estate office, and overflow guesthouse, it features unique gardens landscaped by James Pulham and Son. Following Wills' death, the estate was handed over to the University of Bristol in 1947. From 1959 to 2004, the grounds around Bracken Hill and Rayne Thatch served as the University of Bristol Botanic Garden, housing thousands of plant species. Residential Conversion: Rayne Thatch itself was sold off separately in 1947, extended, and converted fully into private residential living space. Reports suggest the last known occupants were connected to a wealthy Saudi-linked business entity around 2018. Although official corporate records show the property is tied to Greek nationals. But even after so much exposure from Urban Explorers it still sits decaying and at the time of this explore again unsecured with no security guards and an alarm that didn't work. Since this explore I've been told security are now back outside. Explored with: ‪@TheSecretVault‬
