The Largest Killing Operation of WW2 Wasn’t Auschwitz

You know the name Auschwitz. Almost everyone does. But three other camps — Bełżec, Sobibór, and Treblinka — murdered close to 1.5 million Jews between them, and most people have never heard of a single one. This documentary tells the story of Operation Reinhard, the Nazi killing campaign that murdered approximately 1.7 million people in its broader scope, including roughly 1.5 million Jews at Bełżec, Sobibór, and Treblinka. These camps were not built to imprison. They were built for one purpose: trains arrived full and left empty, often within hours. From the occupied Polish General Government to the Wannsee Conference, from Aktion T4 to the killing centers of Bełżec, Sobibór, and Treblinka, this World War II documentary examines how the Nazis created one of the deadliest operations of the Holocaust. It was a system of deception, rail schedules, stolen property, carbon monoxide gas chambers, forced labor, and bureaucratic accounting — genocide organized like an industry. We explore the role of Heinrich Himmler, Reinhard Heydrich, Odilo Globocnik, Christian Wirth, Franz Stangl, Kurt Franz, and the SS personnel who built and operated these extermination camps. We examine how Aktion T4 provided the personnel and methods later used in Operation Reinhard, how victims were deceived into believing they were being resettled or disinfected, and how the entire system was designed to murder thousands with terrifying speed and efficiency. This documentary also tells the stories of resistance and survival: the Treblinka uprising, the Sobibór revolt led by Alexander Pechersky and Leon Feldhendler, and the few witnesses who escaped a machine designed to leave no survivors. Their testimony became the foundation of what the world knows today about camps the Nazis tried to erase from history. When the killing was complete, the perpetrators dug up the graves, burned the bodies, dismantled the camps, planted trees over the ash, and built farmhouses on the sites — trying to make it look as if Bełżec, Sobibór, and Treblinka had never existed at all.
