The Dark Story of the Dirlewanger Brigade — the Unit Too Cruel Even for the SS

This is the only unit this channel has ever followed that we will not honor. The men of the SS-Sonderkommando Dirlewanger were poachers emptied out of prison cells, then hardened criminals, then whatever was left in the concentration camps when the work needed more hands. Their commander was a disgraced convict the SS put in charge on purpose. And before the war ended, this unit took so many unarmed lives that other SS officers — men who were no strangers to atrocity — tried to have it disbanded. This is the story of the one formation the SS itself could not stomach, and of the people it was sent to erase.
