We Went Away for a Week… Look What Happened to the Garden!

We went away for a week… and wow, the garden certainly didn’t wait for us! 😂 After a week in Sicily, I’m finally back in the garden — and I’m not quite sure where to start! Everything has grown like mad, the tomatoes have turned into a jungle, the cosmos has collapsed, the kale is bursting out of its covers and there’s a LOT to harvest. So, with the garden looking rather wild, I’m starting the big post-holiday tidy-up. I get the mower out, turn the compost, chop up a mountain of comfrey and tackle some very unruly Brussel sprouts, as well as planting out some autumn and winter lettuce. And then there’s the harvest… tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, chillies, cucumber, squash, broccoli and my first properly successful celeriac! After years of growing a tangled mess of roots, I finally managed to grow one worth harvesting. 🙌 There are plenty of little garden moments too, including the resident wildlife and a rather spectacular Tithonia comeback. It’s amazing what a week away can do to a garden — but slowly, we’re getting there! Thanks so much for coming along and supporting My Bountiful Acre.
