Still in Malaysia – Day 28: stranded by a storm in Baling, Kedah, a few hundred metres from a traditional kite factory I wanted to see. Day 14 of my Malaysia road trip. One side of the sky was blue, the other side black. I took the risk anyway, the rain came down, and I ran into the first small restaurant I could find: Warung D'Bawah Gunung. I only ordered a cold tea, but within an hour I knew half the family, gave them a wooden shoe from Holland, and ended up in their family photo. I could have sheltered somewhere else before the rain. Let's call it fate. What the rain cost me (3 Nov 2026, RM 1 = $0.2457 / €0.2193): Iced tea: RM 2.00 ($0.49 / €0.44) The change of RM 10, for the kids' candy: RM 8.00 ($1.97 / €1.75) Total: RM 10.00 ($2.46 / €2.19) Question for you: what's the best thing that ever happened to you because your plan failed? Tell me in the comments.
