Pastor Allen Victor presented a message titled “Seeing the Signs. Redeeming the Times” from Matthew 24:1–14. He began by reviewing the final week of Jesus’ early ministry, including His entrance into Jerusalem, the cleansing of the temple, and His confrontation with the Pharisees. Pastor Allen then examined Jesus’ prediction that the temple would be destroyed and explained how the disciples’ questions on the Mount of Olives led Jesus into a discussion about the signs of the end of the age, His coming, and the destruction of the temple. Pastor Allen explained that Jesus answered these questions in a particular order, beginning with a summary of the signs of the end of the age. He discussed deception, false Christs, wars and rumors of wars, famines, pestilences, earthquakes, and other disasters as the “beginning of sorrows,” comparing these events to the increasing frequency and intensity of birth pains. He then examined the distress believers would experience, including persecution, hatred, betrayal, false prophets, deception, increasing lawlessness, and the cooling of people’s love. He emphasized Jesus’ instruction not to be troubled by these things and highlighted the importance of enduring faithfully. The message also focused on the worldwide proclamation of the gospel. Pastor Allen discussed the continuing translation and distribution of Scripture, Christian ministry around the world, the spread of the gospel through modern technology, and the church’s worldwide reach. He emphasized that the gospel would be preached to all nations before the end would come, while acknowledging that no one knows exactly when that will occur. In light of these signs, Pastor Allen challenged believers to live with expectancy, urgency, and purity. He encouraged Christians to look for the coming of Jesus, reach others with the gospel while there was still opportunity, and live lives that honored Christ. He pointed to the hope of Christ’s return as a motivation to reject worldly lusts, live godly lives, and remain prepared. Rather than focusing primarily on the Antichrist, he encouraged believers to keep their attention on Jesus Christ and His promised return. He concluded by emphasizing the need to be aware of what was coming, remain calm when the world was troubled, stay steadfast in faith, recognize warnings, remain expectant, discern the signs, watch and be ready, and faithfully serve while awaiting the Master’s return.
