Our nervous system plays an enormous role in how we experience and respond to the world. And as nervous system healing has become increasingly popular, there’s now an enormous amount of information about how to regulate, heal and build greater capacity.
But I think we’ve also brought some of our usual assumptions about effort, productivity and self-improvement into the way we approach this work—and in some ways, we may have gotten it backwards.
In this video, I explore four of those assumptions—from trying to create ease through more effort, to undervaluing rest and pleasure, to treating nervous system capacity as another measure of how much we should be able to handle.
I also talk about why reconnecting with sensation matters—not because more sensation is always better, but because developing a healthier relationship with our internal experience can help us stay more connected to ourselves and make more conscious choices about the lives we’re creating.
FREE CLASS — BEYOND SELF-AWARENESS
If you’re interested in exploring these ideas more deeply, I have a free class called Beyond Self-Awareness. It explores why understanding ourselves isn’t always enough to create change, and how the nervous system, our inner experience and the way we relate to ourselves all play a role.
