As I continue preparing the lawn for aeration and overseeding, I noticed brown patch starting to show back up in the same area that gave me problems earlier in the season. Before moving further into the fall lawn renovation, I decided to make a targeted fungicide application to the affected area in the backyard.
In this video, I walk through how I set up my backpack sprayer for the application, why I switched from the spray tip I used for perimeter pest control back to a coarse tip with larger droplets, and how I measure the treatment based on my calibrated sprayer.
I also talk about an important part of managing lawn fungus: rotating fungicide products rather than repeatedly relying on the same treatment. Earlier in the season, I treated this same brown patch problem using multiple applications spaced apart, so I explain why changing products is something I keep in mind when dealing with recurring lawn disease.
After the application, the next step is getting the treatment watered into the soil. That’s especially important in this lawn because it’s a newer construction property with compacted soil, rocks, and areas that are still working toward becoming fully established.
This is another step in the larger aeration and overseeding series. Over the next few weeks, I’ll continue lowering the mowing height, preparing the soil, and getting everything ready before the seed finally goes down.
In this video, you’ll learn:
• How I’m dealing with returning brown patch
• Why I changed spray tips for this lawn application
• How backpack sprayer calibration affects my mix
• Why fungicide rotation matters when treating recurring lawn disease
• Why I’m watering the treatment into the soil
• How new-construction soil compaction affects lawn establishment
• How this treatment fits into my aeration and overseeding prep
