Make a Statement (2025) for Time for Three and the Frost All-Stamps Ensemble - Asher Lurie

"Make a Statement" is a single movement work for a large ensemble written in three sections. The first section is my own statement, energetically contrasting running melodies with sharp interjections and low drones. The second section consists of the statements of others. Many performers are given the opportunity to speak their mind through free improvisation while others occasionally quote the masterpieces of famous artists. Finally, the third section returns to my statement, but becomes nuanced by the thoughts, feelings, and truths of others. The end result is an overwhelming amount of sound, reminding listeners to use their lives to make statements of their own. Performed on March 5, 2025 by Time for Three (Nick Kendall, Charles Yang, and Ranaan Meyer) and the Frost All-Stamps Ensemble at the Frost School of Music Gusman Concert Hall.
