In Part Two of our walk through Uffington’s prehistoric landscape, I continue along the Ridgeway with Wessex Ways podcaster Hedley Thorne, travelling from Wayland’s Smithy towards White Horse Hill. Along the way, we explore the ancient Ridgeway, the Neolithic Long Mound, the Uffington White Horse, Dragon Hill, the Manger and the great Iron Age enclosure of Uffington Castle. Hedley takes a larger role in this part of the walk, sharing his knowledge of the landscape and providing the superb drone footage that reveals how these famous places relate to one another. Seen separately, they can appear to be individual monuments. Walking between them reveals something much richer: a landscape repeatedly marked, reused and reimagined over thousands of years.
