Job Fransen is back. Last time we had Job on, we spent a lot of time talking about near and far transfer — basically, the further your training gets from the thing you actually care about, the less confident you should be that any of it transfers. This time we go a lot deeper. Job and Franco Impellizzeri recently published a taxonomy for transfer in sport — 13 dimensions that help explain why something that improves in training doesn’t always show up where you actually want it to. Naturally, we take that framework and drag it into the military. What does “cognitive readiness” actually mean? What are we trying to improve? And if the Pentagon wants to elevate it, how exactly are we supposed to know whether any of the tools being sold to do that actually transfer to performance? That gets us into VR, cognitive training apps, brain games, and a lot of other stuff that sounds great until you start asking what the transfer task actually is. The bigger point: there probably isn’t a shortcut. Expertise seems to come from working through a long chain of near transfers — getting slightly better at things that look a lot like the next thing you need to get better at. Not training something completely different and hoping it magically shows up later. Job’s first episode with us dropped in December 2025. If this whole transfer conversation is new to you, start there. 🎙️ Full Podcast — https://open.spotify.com/show/0RSP5Cy... 📋 Train With Us! — https://marketplace.trainheroic.com/w... 🌐 Website — https://www.mopsnmoes.com/ 📸 Instagram — https://www.instagram.com/mops_n_moes... 📧 Newsletter — https://www.mopsnmoes.com/newsletter 🏃 Strava —   / strava   💬 Discord —   / discord
