The hike to the castle offers beautiful views of the Váh Valley and the surrounding landscape. Čachtice Castle was built in the 13th century following the Mongol invasion to protect the western frontier of the Kingdom of Hungary. It later became famous as the residence of Elizabeth Báthory, the "Blood Countess", and today it is one of the region's most popular tourist destinations.
