San Francisco in 1941, in real Kodachrome color. Not colorized, not AI. A second reel from the same family whose August 1941 footage is already on this channel. It opens on the Fourth of July weekend at the Hotel Del Monte in Monterey, with the Roman Plunge pool, the diving and the lunch tables, a year before the Navy took the hotel. Then a union parade past City Hall and up Market Street: the Sailors Union of the Pacific, the painters' local, majorettes, bands, a bus with a V for Victory, and a theater marquee that dates it to Labor Day. A tennis exhibition at the Berkeley Tennis Club. The Army camped on the polo field in Golden Gate Park for Army Day in October 1941, tents, jeeps and all. A night parade under floodlights, and the San Francisco Ice Follies at Winterland. Two months later the country was at war.
