Customising a Matchbox MB156 Ford Escort Cabriolet, in the Matchbox range from 1985 until 1989. Here is Ford's failed attempt at a "world car." The Escort was supposed to rationalise Ford's European and American divisions with unified thinking, reducing costs and increasing the number of interchangeable parts. Can you guess the total number of parts shared between the US and European Escorts? Two. Just two. The European Escort is the third iteration of European Escort which replaced the Mark 2 in 1980. The new car was quite the departure from its predecessor with more boxy styling and front-wheel drive. It did see the introduction in 1983 of Ford's first cabriolet model since the 1960s Corsair. The Mark 3 Escort was produced until 1986 when it was replaced by an almost identical car which is confusingly referred to as a Mark 3 facelift and Mark 4 in equal measure. Matchbox produced their Escort Cabriolet between 1985 and 1989, though it became a 'Rest of World' exclusive after 1986. My one had been stoved-in on it's windscreen, causing damage to the plastic part. I had to fix this but I also needed a solution to conceal the issues that the transparency had as a result. Some tasteful 1980s additions were the answer...
