Adventures with Cole Ep. 19 Firebox Cook Up at a Remote Abandoned Cabin & a Caribou Encounter. We set off early on a long skidoo ride deep into the remote Newfoundland backcountry, chasing down a remote abandoned cabin hidden far off the beaten path. The ride in wasn’t easy. Rough trail conditions had us fighting to stay upright, nearly flipping a few times and almost getting stuck more than once. But we kept pushing through until we finally made it to the cabin. Once we got there, an idea hit. Could we actually send a skidoo over the roof? So I gave it a shot. It didn’t go exactly as planned—but somehow, I made it over without any issues. After the attempt, we slowed things down and set up for a proper backcountry cook-up. We got two fires going—one for warmth and one for cooking—and made burgers and tea while taking in the quiet of the wilderness. To finish off the day, we strapped on snowshoes and hiked up a nearby hill to catch the sunset. By the time we made it back down, the sun had dropped behind the mountains, and it was time to head home. An unreal day exploring the backcountry.
