Join me on a 4K walk through Macau 🇲🇴 on a hot, humid May afternoon. Colorful shop signs, busy alleys and pastel colonial buildings fill this lively city where Chinese and Portuguese cultures meet. Macau's story goes back to A-Ma Temple, a shrine to the goddess of seafarers built in 1488. Portuguese traders settled here in 1557, and the city grew into a trading hub linking China, Japan and Europe. The Church of St. Paul was completed in the early 17th century, and although a fire destroyed it in 1835, its stone facade still stands today. In 2005 Macau's Historic Centre was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Macau returned to China as a Special Administrative Region in 1999.
