The Real Carter Lee Was the Most Untouchable Man Behind Lawless Movie

The 2012 film Lawless gives you a villain to hate - a sadistic city deputy who terrorizes the moonshining Bondurant brothers. But the real kingpin behind Franklin County's whiskey-protection racket was the county's own prosecutor, Charles Carter Lee, a grand-nephew of Robert E. Lee accused of running the whole scheme. This is how twenty of his men went to prison while he walked out of the 1935 trial a free man. #CarterLee #Lawless #Moonshine
