Flying for the first time a bare 6 weeks before the race, the DH.88 Comet set new benchmarks for design and construction times while adapting existing and establishing new methodologies of aircraft design and construction. Each aircraft was sold at a fixed price of £5000, less than half the cost of manufacture, the race that Comet was on was not just about speed in the air. Three Comets were built for the race, with two successfully completing it including being the Overall winner of the race.
