Crossing the Apuseni Mountains in 3 Days Alone

In the Easter holidays I was searching for an easily accessible place from Hungary but still wild, where I could hike with relatively limited experience in winter mountaineering and avalanche safety. I stumbled upon the Apuseni Mountains, which translates to “The Mountains of the Setting Sun” in Romanian. I hiked through knee-deep snow, crossed paths with bears and gained significant elevation across this beautiful mountain range in Transylvania. This is a place where English helps you surprisingly little. If you don’t speak Romanian, your two best tools are Hungarian and Spanish. #hiking #alone #apuseni #romania
