A routine sentencing hearing takes a dramatic turn when the judge rejects the joint recommendation for a 12-month prison sentence and instead imposes 48 months. The defendant pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular assault following a serious car crash that left the victim with life-changing injuries. During the hearing, the victim described the long-term physical, financial, and emotional consequences, including more than $215,000 in uncovered medical expenses. The judge also reviewed the defendant's lengthy history of driving-related offenses, including repeated license violations, OVI-related history, and prior criminal convictions. After hearing from the defendant, the victim, the prosecution, defense counsel, and the defendant's daughter, the judge concluded that a 12-month sentence was not justified. The court ultimately ordered: • 48 months in prison • 5-year driver's license suspension • $215,458.01 restitution to Christina Broad • $11,069.05 restitution to Taylor Wolfe • Court costs • Up to 2 years of post-release control The defendant's reaction after the sentence: “I'm in shock right now.” Watch the full courtroom sentencing and hear the judge explain why he rejected the recommended sentence. ⚠️ This video is presented for news, educational, documentary, and public-interest purposes.
