Shifting Tides (FULL SCORE) - Joel Rutherford III

Full Score for Shifting Tides (for String Quartet) Focusing on short, pointed articulations and percussive ideas, Shifting Tides derives most of its repeated motifs from rhythmic content rather than melodic. The piece explores the percussive sounds a string quartet can achieve, oftentimes with rhythms bouncing back and forth between parts to create a completed groove. Despite its heavily accented and staccato content, the piece remains light and almost jovial, while still keeping a rich and colorful harmonic language between the four stringed instruments.
