Monster Hunter Stories 3 now activates 120hz output on Nintendo Switch 2 following the version 1.1.0 update, so I put it through a full frame rate test across eight areas to see whether that actually changes anything, using a custom frame rate analysis tool.
Tested on Nintendo Switch 2.
The short version is that the 120hz output does not raise the frame rate. Across all eight areas tested, the game averages around 34fps, with most areas sitting in the low to mid 30s and the strongest spots like Galyad and Serathis reaching the high 30s to low 40s. In other words, enabling 120hz output is about how the frame rate is presented and smoothness rather than pushing the game to a higher frame rate, so if you were hoping the update would deliver a big performance boost, that is not what is happening here.
The tool measures real framerate by detecting duplicate frames to calculate true FPS separately from the container rate, alongside per frame frametime data and 1% lows that reveal stuttering average figures hide. Areas tested include Ashen Pass, Azuria, Azuria Castle, Canalta Timberland, Galyad, Serathis, Sheparden and Tarkuan, giving a broad spread across the game's environments.
Whether you are a Monster Hunter Stories 3 player wondering what the 120hz update actually does, or a fan of Switch 2 frame rate analysis, this test gives you the answer. Subscribe for more Nintendo Switch 2 frame rate tests.
