The Matrix-12 was Oberheim's most ambitious analogue synthesiser. Vangelis, Depeche Mode, The Orb and Technotronic all reached for it, and it earned a reputation for the thickest pads, sweeps and basses ever recorded. We developed our official recreation with Oberheim and Marcus Ryle, the original designer, and modelled the oscillators, filter, and envelopes against the hardware. Then we made the matrix visible.
