In August 1948, twenty-eight-year-old Shane O'Neill pleaded guilty in New York to possessing heroin. He received a suspended two-year sentence, but the deeper punishment came afterward. PBS and the National Park Service say his famous father had no further contact with him.
Shane was the younger son of playwright Eugene O'Neill. This documentary follows his troubled childhood, family estrangement, drug convictions, and final years, while examining the patterns of addiction and isolation that shaped the O'Neill family. This is the untold story of Shane O'Neill, Eugene O'Neill's younger son.
