Caring for My 5-Day-Old Baby Buffalo | Cutting Down a Whole Tree for His Hungry Mother Welcoming a newborn calf into our off-grid homestead brings profound joy & constant devotion to keeping every animal well-nourished. Today, my heart was set on caring for our gentle five-day-old baby buffalo, but with the nursing mother exhausted & desperately hungry after calving, forage in the paddock simply was not enough. I hiked out to the forest creek & cut down an entire lush green tree so the mother buffalo could feast on fresh, tender foliage to restore her strength & produce rich milk for her little one. After guiding the wobbly calf back to safety & lighting a smoky fire to fend off evening pests, I took on a difficult timber-loading job in the mountains to earn extra income, where a rolling heavy log painfully bruised my leg. With herbal medicine pounded & bound to ease the injury, I rested before harvesting ripe garden vegetables from our plots & walking down to the local mountain market to sell our fresh greens to villagers on Golden Ridge Farm.
