🍎 APPLE CRUMBLE RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
APPLE FILLING
900 g apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
40 g light brown sugar
25 g all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon fine salt
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
CRUMBLE TOPPING
100 g unsalted butter, melted
120 g all-purpose flour
90 g old-fashioned rolled oats
75 g light brown sugar
¼ teaspoon fine salt
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
METHOD
1. Prepare the apples:
Peel, core, and slice the apples. Add them to a large bowl and toss with the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, lemon juice, vanilla, and nutmeg until evenly coated.
2. Prepare the pan:
Lightly butter a 9-inch square baking pan. Transfer the apples to the pan and spread them evenly.
3. Make the crumble:
In a bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Add the melted butter and vanilla, then mix until the butter is evenly incorporated and the mixture forms moist, irregular crumbs.
4. Assemble:
Scatter the crumble evenly over the apples. Don't press the topping down.
5. Bake:
Bake at 350°F/175°C until the crumble is deeply golden and the apple filling is bubbling. The apples should be tender when pierced with a knife. If the topping browns too quickly, loosely cover with foil and continue baking.
6. Rest and serve:
Let the crumble rest for about 20-30 minutes before serving.
Notes
For the best texture, use a mix of sweet and tart apples. Honeycrisp and Granny Smith give the filling a lovely sweet-tart balance while holding their shape during baking.
Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream.
Thanks for spending a little time at my table. ♥
Happy baking! ♥
