Hokkaido in summer feels different depending on the hour. Quiet mornings, slow tram rides, underground streets, festival nights, late dinners, and city lights slowly taking over the sky. We spent four days based in Sapporo, taking our time with the city instead of trying to check off as many places as possible. Along the way, we found some of our favorite local food, a few places that were genuinely worth the detour, and some simple ways to make the most of Sapporo from morning to night. If you’re planning a summer trip to Hokkaido, this video is also a relaxed guide to some of the experiences we found most worthwhile, from where to eat and what to save for after dark, to when to head up Mt. Moiwa for sunset and blue hour. And before flying out, we spent a few extra hours exploring New Chitose Airport. If you have time before your flight, there’s a lot more here than just boarding gates, including Hokkaido sweets, ramen, shopping, luggage storage, and a few final things worth trying before you leave.
