Spend a day with us exploring Otaru, one of Hokkaido’s most charming seaside towns. Just a short trip from Sapporo, Otaru feels like stepping into a storybook — with nostalgic streets, historic buildings, beautiful ocean views, glass shops, music boxes, local sweets, fresh sushi, and the iconic Otaru Canal. We started the day overlooking the Sea of Japan from Shukutsu, wandered down the scenic Funamizaka Slope, explored Otaru Central Market, stopped for sweets at LeTAO, visited the famous Otaru Music Box Museum, and slowly made our way through the historic streets around the canal. Along the way, we also tried local sushi, explored traditional glass shops, visited the atmospheric Kitaichi Hall, discovered more Hokkaido sweets, and spent the day experiencing the quieter, more nostalgic side of Japan.
