Long since fallen out of use, it is now visited almost every day by only one young girl. Her fiancé left for a distant battlefield and has yet to return. Day after day passes in silence, with no word from him. In her heart, she holds on to a small promise they made before he left for war. “I promise I’ll come back. And when I do, we’ll be married.” Following the customs of her homeland, the girl made her own bridal veil by hand. With every stitch, she wove into it a prayer for his safe return. The finished veil has remained by her side for a long time now. Believing that the day will come when she can finally wear it, she visits the chapel each day and offers a song. The song has no name, nor does it have any set words. She simply gives voice to the feelings in her heart, turning them into sound. Whenever the light through the stained glass surrounds her, she wishes that the same light might somehow reach him on that distant battlefield. She does not know whether her prayers will ever reach him.
