THE CROWN OF THE MOUNTAINS
An epic symphonic power metal song about Pelagius of Asturias and the rise of a kingdom from Visigothic ashes.
Thunderous guitars, orchestration, and soaring choirs bring to life the legendary Battle of Covadonga and a warrior's defiance.

LYRICS
Guadalete! The banners bled red,
The Gothic kings lay cold among the dead.
Their golden realm was broken by the blade,
And ash consumed the glory they had made.
The southern skies were black with flame,
The crown was lost, the throne a name.
But far beyond the conqueror's reach,
The mountains kept a king they could not teach to kneel.
I heard the hoofbeats rolling north,
The shattered eagles stumbling forth.
The lords of Goths, their kingdoms slain,
Crossed the hills through blood and rain.
Their cloaks were torn, their swords were worn,
Their eyes betrayed a world forlorn.
They came to me with pride laid low,
With nowhere left to turn or go.
"Pelagius, lord, our realm is dust,
Our swords are bent, our crowns are rust.
Our halls are cold, our banners fall,
And foreign shadows haunt them all."
I saw their shame, I heard their cries,
The dying embers in their eyes.
I raised my blade against the sky:
"Then let the fallen learn to fly!"
For kingdoms fall and kings may die,
But roots endure when branches fly.
The eagle's wings may burn away,
Yet dawn is born beyond the grey!
I AM THE FLAME THAT THE DARKNESS FEARS!
I AM THE SHIELD OF A THOUSAND YEARS!
From broken crowns and a kingdom undone,
I'll forge a dawn where the night has won!
Raise up the swords! Let the war horns cry!
Let thunder answer the blood-red sky!
Though all our fathers' halls have burned,
The crown of the mountains shall be returned!
I AM PELAGIUS! HEAR MY NAME!
THE ASHES OF GOTHIA SHALL RISE IN FLAME!
Let empires shatter, let tyrants fall—
The mountains will answer when freedom calls!
I gathered the lords who had lost their lands,
The scarred old wolves with bloodied hands.
The sons of a realm that had ruled the plain,
Now bound by grief and forged by pain.
No jeweled throne, no silken bed,
No golden crown upon my head.
Just stone beneath us, stars above,
And iron hearts that none could move.
"Forget the feasts, forget the gold,
Forget the tales our fathers told.
Let cowards kneel and embrace the chain,
We'll rise through fire, through blood and pain!"
From every vale, from every height,
We gathered souls to feed the fight.
The broken few, the proud, the brave,
Would carve a kingdom from the grave!
They called our cause a desperate stand,
A dying spark in a conquered land.
They saw a rebel, cornered, alone—
They never saw the seed we'd sown!
Covadonga! Let the echoes roll!
Stone and steel, one heart, one soul!
The mighty came with the strength of kings,
But the mountains devoured their wings!
You took our cities! You burned our past!
But roots in the mountains grow deep and fast!
You conquered the plains, you shattered the gate—
BUT YOU CANNOT COMMAND WHAT YOU CANNOT TAKE!
I AM THE FLAME THAT THE DARKNESS FEARS!
I AM THE SHIELD OF A THOUSAND YEARS!
From broken crowns, from a kingdom undone,
A new dawn rises, a new age begun!
Raise up the swords! Let the war horns cry!
Let our defiance split the sky!
From Gothic ashes, from mountain stone,
We shall forge a realm to call our own!
I AM PELAGIUS! REMEMBER MY NAME!
THE SEED OF ASTURIAS SHALL BLOOM IN FLAME!
Let empires shatter, let tyrants fall—
THE MOUNTAINS WILL ANSWER WHEN FREEDOM CALLS!
From Guadalete, the darkness came,
But northern mountains kept the flame.
One crown was lost, another was born—
Asturias rose in the mountain storm!
PELAGIUS! THE FLAME ENDURES!
