In response, the system that had protected the wealthy criminal turned on Boris. Due to widespread corruption, Nikolai was released, and Boris Aleksandrov was imprisoned, accused of lying. The sound of the judge's gavel sounded the death knell of Vanya's ideals. Shock turned into cold, burning hatred. Vanya realized that his dream of an honest world and service was a lie. After the collapse of the Noobic Union, when Yelistratov became president and Noobia plunged into a new, openly dirty wave of corruption, Vanya finally realized that Aleksandr Kristavitskiy—the very colonel who had sanctioned his father's conviction—worked in the Ministry of Public Order. Kristavitskiy wasn't just part of the system; he was its concrete, personal embodiment. The dream of service burned out, leaving only the duty of retribution. Vanya resorted to shooting solely because of corruption, and his sole goal was to eliminate Aleksandr Kristavitskiy. On November 16, 1999, Vanya Aleksandrov executed his plan.
