Asphodel Hotel

A film inspired by the story of Asphodel Meadows in Greek Mythology. In the Asphodel Meadows, ordinary souls spend eternity neither rewarded nor punished, simply existing between memory and oblivion. Inspired by this myth, Asphodel Hotel follows the residents of a mysterious hotel suspended outside of time. I first encountered the Greek concept of the Asphodel Meadows while reading about the afterlife in ancient mythology. Unlike heaven or hell, the Asphodel Meadows were reserved for ordinary souls, those who had lived neither exceptionally virtuous nor exceptionally wicked lives. I was drawn to this idea because it challenged the way we often think about significance. What happens to the people who are not remembered by history? What value exists in an ordinary life?
