This video documents a full-game walkthrough and technical showcase of Hiruko — an unused, unfinished and normally unplayable character whose data remains inside the original game. ⚠️ Important: This is the original USA NES ROM of Double Dragon III: The Sacred Stones. No modified ROM, ROM hack, or fan-made version was used. Hiruko was accessed through memory manipulation / memory hacking / cheat-based methods that allow her character data to be selected and forced into gameplay. And once Hiruko becomes playable, things get VERY broken. Hiruko has no proper combat moveset, meaning she cannot normally attack or defend herself. Because of this, enemies can freely damage her, while many of her normal actions produce severe graphical corruption. Her character sprites, palettes, animations and movement behavior can change or completely break depending on the situation. To make a complete walkthrough possible, additional memory-based methods were used, including invincibility, automatic enemy defeat and stage/phase skipping. These methods are used only to demonstrate Hiruko throughout the entire game and to overcome sections that she cannot normally pass. 🔥 What Happens During the Walkthrough Stage 1 — America Hiruko immediately shows signs of her unfinished state. Her graphics can appear green, distorted and corrupted when first selected. During story sequences and encounters, however, her appearance can temporarily stabilize and return closer to her original colors. Her inability to fight becomes obvious almost immediately. Certain black-screen transitions can also cause Hiruko to die automatically, requiring a character switch between Hiruko and Billy to continue. Stage 2 — China Her graphical instability becomes even more noticeable. Depending on the enemies and palette conditions on screen, Hiruko can appear blue, pinkish, violet or purple, while her sprites and animations can become heavily distorted. Running and attempting actions that require proper player animations can produce particularly strange results. Stage 3 — Japan More problems appear here. After completing the first phase, entering the second phase with the bamboo traps causes Hiruko to disappear and the game effectively leaves you controlling Flawed. To continue, it becomes necessary to switch back to Billy and use the stage/phase-skip method to bypass the problematic section and reach the Ranzou boss encounter. Stage 4 — Italy Hiruko's lack of a functional jump becomes especially apparent. Since she cannot properly jump, falling from elevated areas is used to descend instead — but these falling sequences can cause her graphics to break apart in extremely strange ways. Stage 5 — Egypt This becomes one of the most difficult sections of the entire experiment. Hiruko can cause repeated instability and crashes, making progression extremely troublesome even with the memory-manipulation methods being used. Despite all of these problems, the walkthrough manages to push Hiruko through the complete game. 🧩 What This Demonstrates This isn't simply a character reskin or a ROM hack. Hiruko's presence demonstrates that unused character-related data exists within the original game, but the character does not contain the complete functionality required to operate as a normal playable fighter. Her broken behavior includes: • No functional combat moveset • Severe sprite and palette corruption • Broken running animations • Glitched movement • No proper jumping functionality • Automatic deaths during certain transitions • Character disappearance in specific areas • Unexpected character substitution • Stage-specific graphical corruption • Severe instability and crashes • Different behavior depending on enemies, palettes and environments Her presence also raises an interesting question: was Hiruko ever considered for a playable role during development? The goal of this walkthrough is therefore to show, as completely as possible, what happens when Hiruko is forced through the entire NES game despite lacking the functionality of a normal playable character. After overcoming the game's various technical problems, transitions, crashes and impossible sections, Hiruko ultimately makes it all the way to the end of Double Dragon III: The Sacred Stones. Original USA NES version. No modified ROM. Memory manipulation and cheat-based methods were used to access and demonstrate the unused character. This is a full-game Hiruko technical walkthrough/showcase, documenting her unused state, glitches, graphical corruption, instability and everything that happens when she is forced into gameplay. #DoubleDragon3 #TheSacredStones #DoubleDragonIII #Hiruko #HirukoPlayable #UnusedCharacter #UnfinishedCharacter #NES #NintendoNES #NESGaming #RetroGaming #RetroGames #GameGlitch #GamingGlitches #MemoryHacking #MemoryManipulation #GameHacking #GameResearch #TechnicalShowcase #CharacterGlitch #HiddenCharacter #UnusedContent #DoubleDragon #TechnosJapan #Acclaim
