The man who had her had not had her since she was a puppy. He had found her six years ago, wandering alone, and believed that by keeping her tied up this way, he was protecting her from the dangers of the streets. I spoke with him. He did not do it out of cruelty. He simply did not know. He was unaware of the laws. Unaware of what a good quality of life for a dog really means. He allowed me to take her. He didn’t even know her age or anything about her past. She had a microchip, but unfortunately it was never registered. So we will probably never know who originally owned her, how she ended up on the streets, or what happened to her before she eventually ended up tied to a tree, with a barrel as her home. Her blood tests revealed that she is suffering from Ehrlichia, Anaplasma, and Babesia. Her treatment has already begun. And this is where her new life truly begins.  For the first time, she is receiving the care she should have had all along. We cannot change the years she lost. We cannot erase the loneliness, the confinement, or the life she was forced to endure. But we can make sure that the rest of her life is different. And that is exactly what we intend to do. No more rope. No more barrel. No more one-meter world. From now on, she gets to discover what life is really supposed to be.
