This lesson explores how early years practitioners promote children’s health and wellbeing through the small, repeated actions of everyday practice. It explains why adults are important role models, showing children healthy habits such as drinking water, eating nutritious food, washing hands, being physically active and managing emotions calmly. The lesson also focuses on supporting independence in self-care, including feeding, dressing, toileting, handwashing and tidying. Rather than taking over, practitioners should offer guidance, encouragement and enough time for children to participate and develop confidence. You will also learn how to offer positive, age-appropriate choices and praise children for their effort and engagement rather than simply for completing an activity. The lesson brings these approaches together to show how consistent role modelling, supported independence and positive encouragement can create a lasting culture of health and wellbeing across an early years setting.
