Three complementary studies help sort whether symptoms point to mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, or something else.
Start with MRI of the brain without contrast, plus volumetric analysis (NeuroQuant or equivalent). It looks for other explanations, measures volumes, and sets a baseline. Comprehensive neuropsychological testing maps the pattern and severity of thinking-skill change. Amyloid PET looks for amyloid plaques. It does not replace the MRI. It belongs after a full evaluation, when Alzheimer’s disease is still a realistic possibility.
The tests are how we see the problem. They are not the treatment. Education, not a consult. Not medical advice.
