In November of 2022, a seventy-one-year-old man who could no longer speak stood in a packed Toronto arena as thousands rose to their feet for him. Most fans remember Börje Salming as the Swedish defenseman of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the player who skated in the NHL from 1973 to 1990 and became the first Swedish player inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Far fewer know what it cost him to get there. This is the story of a miner's son from the Arctic north of Sweden, a scout who came looking for someone else, and a young defenseman who stepped into a league that was not ready for him. It follows his second NHL game in Philadelphia, his years as the King of Toronto, an injury that took more than two hundred stitches to close, and a final chapter that no one saw coming. This channel tells the untold, dramatic stories of the NHL legends who built this game, and what it really cost them. If you think the men who built this game deserve to be remembered honestly, consider subscribing. These are the stories that don't make the highlight reels. #BorjeSalming #NHL #TorontoMapleLeafs #HockeyHistory #NHLLegends #SwedishHockey
