This video shows how to properly handle reverse items in a Likert scale and get a correct final mean score right inside Google Sheets. It solves the common pain point where manual reverse scoring gets tangled and the total score loses credibility. We use STATS_RECODE + STATS_COLUMNS + STATS_COMPUTE (ALS Stats) together: flip only the items that need flipping, combine them with the rest, and compute the aggregated score with a single formula that updates automatically when new responses arrive. On top of that we check internal consistency with STATS_ALPHA and, when needed, drop an item that hurts the scale's reliability. The result is a transparent, reproducible workflow — no Excel and no SPSS.
00 Step 1. Reverse-coding the responses.
07 Step 2. Combining reverse-coded responses with the rest.
08 Step 3. Filtering out items to improve consistency.
08 Step 4. The full process on another column.
