In the fifth episode of Dying Stories of Purani Dilli, we meet one of the last hand painters in Old Delhi who is standing against the technology. Shakeel Art can be traced in every second name board of a shop in Old Delhi’s Jama Masjid area. But with changing time, Shakeel is still trying hard to make things work for him. ‘Painter in the time of technology’ is a case in point where we have a hand painter on one hand going against the person who has adopted the printing press to make things work with the changing time. Shakeel, on the other hand, believes that the craft of hand is original while technology is only a duplication.
