DAIMLER TRUCK JUST DROPPED A BOMBSHELL: THIS WILL SHAKE THE ENTIRE TRUCK INDUSTRY! Daimler Truck just sold 51% more trucks in North America than a year ago: 45,629 Freightliner, Western Star and Thomas Built vehicles in a single quarter. And on Friday, October 30, it closes the Swan Island plant in Portland, Oregon, ending decades of Freightliner truck building in the city where the brand was born. 387 jobs are on the state layoff notice. This isn't a company in trouble. It's a company running the same playbook it has used since 2007, only this time it's cutting at the top of the cycle instead of the bottom. In this video we break down the history, the numbers, and what the end of the EPA 2027 pre-buy could mean for owner-operators, fleets, and truck plant workers. What you'll learn: • Why Freightliner's Swan Island plant, home of the Western Star X-Series, eCascadia and eM2, is closing in the middle of a sales boom • The 2007 and 2008 layoffs, and the 2008 plan to close this same plant that was reversed in 2009 • The pension detail that saved Swan Island once, and why it couldn't save it this time • How tariffs, a 3-year freight recession and the EPA 2027 NOx rules shaped Daimler's 2026 • What the end of the pre-buy may mean for truck prices, and the signals to watch next Note: Figures come from Daimler Truck, the Oregon WARN notice, ACT Research, FTR, the EPA and published reports as of October 28, 2026. The EPA's proposed changes to the 2027 rule were not final at the time of writing. Nothing in this video is financial or purchasing advice, and past cycles don't guarantee what happens next.
