What if Atomic Habits isn't really a book about habits?
We usually think of James Clear's book as a guide to becoming more productive — building better routines, breaking bad habits, and making small improvements every day.
But underneath all of that is a much deeper idea:
Your habits don't just change what you do. They gradually change who you are.
Every small action is a vote for the person you're becoming. Read a few pages every day, and you're not just reading — you're reinforcing the identity of someone who reads. Keep small promises to yourself, and you're gradually building evidence about the kind of person you are.
In this video, I explore this hidden idea in Atomic Habits, why identity-based habits may be more powerful than simply setting goals, and where I think the book's philosophy has its limitations.
Because perhaps the better question isn't:
“Who am I?”
but:
“Who am I becoming through what I repeatedly do?”
