Can I fuel a 10-mile Dorset hike using only food I forage along the way? I set off from Corfe Castle with water, a flask and a sealed emergency food bag. Open the bag, and the challenge is over.
Join me in the Purbeck Hills as I search for wild food, attempt an outdoor lunch and discover that a handful of berries doesn’t get you very far. There are beautiful views, cooking mishaps and a Starv-o-meter that gets increasingly desperate.
On today’s planned menu: wild nettle and dock greens, toasted nettle seeds, blackberry and hawthorn compote, and nettle tea. Meanwhile, I can’t stop thinking about fish and chips…
Would you have kept going or opened the emergency bag? Tell me when you would have cracked in the comments.
