Manipur After SoO Pact Lapse: 2,000 Kuki-Zo Cadres, Naga Tensions & Security Risks

Manipur's protracted conflict has entered an uncertain phase following the lapse of the Suspension of Operations agreement between the government and Kuki-Zo armed groups. The framework originally set ground rules for suspending hostilities, monitoring designated camps, and conducting political dialogue. Its expiration raises pressing questions over whether cadre restrictions and arms monitoring will hold, sparking fears of renewed armed mobilization. Compounding the situation is the fact that the crisis is no longer confined to a single fault line. Alongside the deep divide between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities triggered in May 2023, growing friction between Naga and Kuki groups in the hill districts over territorial claims and separate administrative arrangements has created fresh instability. Furthermore, a widespread breakdown of trust between local communities and public institutions complicates security operations and disrupts vital transport arteries. To prevent the conflict from escalating, the government faces critical choices: clarifying the legal and security status of the expired pact, securing vulnerable transit routes, delivering essential relief, and initiating credible, multi-stakeholder political engagement without allowing violence to dictate the state's future. #Manipur #ManipurConflict #SoOPact #KukiZo #Meitei #NagaKuki #ManipurNews #NortheastIndia #IndianPolitics #InternalSecurity #PeaceInManipur #CurrentAffairs #SecurityAnalysis #ManipurCrisis #News9Live ..............................................................................................
