Manipur After SoO Lapse: Security And The Way Forward | News9

The lapse of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement in Manipur has raised fresh concerns over security, weapons monitoring and the future of peace efforts. For 18 years, the framework governed 17 Kuki-Zo armed outfits through agreed ground rules. Its expiry raises questions about the status of an estimated 2,000 cadres and weapons previously subject to restrictions under the arrangement. The conflict, which began with Meitei-Kuki violence in May 2023, now faces additional tensions involving Naga groups and other communities. While the end of the agreement could give security forces greater scope to act, the absence of established ground rules could also complicate weapons control and negotiations. With civil society organisations taking differing positions, the Centre faces mounting pressure to determine the way forward. #manipur #soopact #kukizo #manipurconflict #meiteikuki #northeastindia #manipurnews #peacetalks #internalsecurity #indiapolitics #securityupdate..............................................................................................
