By the time I'm done, it's already dark. I drive alone to our small apartment in Zoshigaya, Tokyo. My wife and daughters will arrive the following evening, so tonight I'm on my own — and I've brought four cases of drinking water to restock the apartment. It's almost 10 p.m. Should I eat out? Since it's Friday night, I decide to take my bicycle out and look for something at the supermarket instead. I visit three stores: Rico's, Lawson Store 100, and Niku no Hanamasa. As a self-proclaimed discount hunter, finding those half-price stickers makes me very happy. 😄 Back at the apartment, I take a ¥430 hamburger steak bento, discounted by ¥150, and give it a little makeover. With extra rice, shredded cabbage, a fried egg, ketchup, and mayonnaise, it becomes my very own version of a loco moco bowl! A simple dinner with instant miso soup and a drink turns out to be surprisingly delicious. After dinner, I take a bath, enjoy a chocolate ice cream bar, watch some anime, and finally head to bed. Nothing particularly special happens. Just an ordinary Friday night in the life of a 55-year-old man in Japan.
