Widow Risks Her Home to Rescue Online Soldier Trapped in Dubai

Evette thought she had found a second chance at love after losing her husband of 20 years to cancer. A retired Canadian nurse with decades of experience and seven years in the military reserves, she was cautious when “Charles Landry” first contacted her online. But Charles claimed to be an American soldier deployed in Iraq, spoke with an American accent, remembered details about her family, and slowly became part of her daily life. Then came the emergencies. Charles said he needed money for an armed escort out of the Middle East, claiming his bank account was frozen. Evette eventually sent C$9,000. Later, while she waited to meet him in Florida, Charles claimed he had been detained in Dubai with 207 pounds of gold and needed tens of thousands of dollars to avoid prison. Evette began selling possessions and even considered risking her home. The story collapsed when a suspicious driver’s license, stolen photographs, and location tracking exposed the deception. The man in the photos was fitness model Jim Gelder, while Charles’s device traced back to Accra, Ghana—not Iraq or Dubai. The final $75,000 payment was stopped, but Evette had already lost money, vehicles, and the future she believed was real. #romancescam #militaryscam #evette #dubaiscam #accraghana ------------------- Reference video sources: Catfished and other media channels.
