Regular visitors to this site - you know who you are.. I won't tell.. promise - will be aware The Citizen Cairn likes to focus upon the more 'obscure' ancient sites nowadays. And, to be fair, they don't come much more reclusive than the diminutive little stone circle of Bryn Beddau, hidden away in a small clearing within the Clocaenog Forest between Ruthin and Cerrig-y-Drudion.
Not shown on the map - at least mine - CADW Scheduling reckons the ring has 19 stones, with a diameter of almost 50ft. OK, so not structurally impressive. I'll give you that. But in its Garbo-esque isolation, the ethereal vibe is (in my estimation) truly sublime.
Access is pretty straightforward..... IF you know what you're doing. Needless to say, I had been given incorrect OS map coordinates so struggled. A lot.
In short, follow the B5105 from Cerrig-y-Drudion towards Ruthin until you encounter a large, gated forest track opposite Glan-y-Gors. Follow said track north until, just before it begins to veer sharply to your left, trend right. Now look for a pretty obvious 'path' to your left leading to the clearing.
