Dinas Dinorwig Iron Age Hillfort, near Llanrug, Gwynedd (SH5496 6531)

This fine Iron Age hillfort stands to the northwest of the Llanberis Pass in the heart of central Snowdonia. On a fine day, the views from the ancient ramparts towards Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) are apparently excellent. Needless to say, the conditions for The Citizen Cairn's visit were somewhat more, err, inclement. Nevertheless, boasting THREE powerful lines of defence, it was soon evident I really should have come here sooner. Prospective visitors should note the great 'fort sits upon private land and permission must be obtained. However, the owner of Pen Dinas Farm was more than happy for me to go have a shufti... proof than canny landowners and respectful visitors CAN get along just fine. #ironage #gwynedd #hillforts #wales
