AN INCORRUPTIBLE INHERITANCE | 1 Peter 1:3–9 What does it mean to be born again? And what hope does the Christian have when life is filled with suffering, trials, sickness, and even death? In 1 Peter 1:3–9, Peter points us to an inheritance that is "incorruptible, undefiled, and that fadeth not away", reserved in heaven for those who have been born again through Jesus Christ. The new birth is not something we accomplish for ourselves. Just as we could not cause our physical birth, we cannot cause our own spiritual rebirth. Salvation is the gracious work of God, bringing sinners from spiritual death into new life in Christ. Jesus said: “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” — John 3:3, KJV Those who are born again are made new creatures in Christ. Their hope is not merely that this present life will become easier. Their hope is the resurrection—because Christ conquered death, those who belong to Him have the promise of resurrection and eternal life. Peter reminds us that trials test and refine our faith. The Christian may experience tremendous suffering in this life, but suffering is not the end of the story. Our inheritance is secure because it is kept by the power of God. And when Christ is revealed, the faith that has been tested through the fires of trial will result in praise, honor, and glory. The question, then, is not merely whether you once raised your hand, walked an aisle, prayed a prayer, or were baptized. Have you been born again? Are you a new creature in Christ? If you are in Christ, you have an inheritance that cannot perish, cannot be defiled, and cannot fade away. It will be worth it all. 📖 Text: 1 Peter 1:3–9 📖 Related Scriptures.
